TOP TEN BOOK TITLES THAT ARE BETTER THAN ANY OF MY BOOK TITLES (because i am horrible at naming things) (as this post clearly shows)

WOW OK I’M A REALLY TERRIBLE PERSON.

I mean I feel like you all know this already. But just in case you are really thick and didn’t notice all the other instances of my terrible person status, this one surely will have sealed the deal for you. My crime is… I FORGOT TO POST. I’M SO SORRY, LOVELIES. YOU ARE STILL MY FAVORITE OF ALL THE OBJECTS IN THE UNIVERSE.* But I’m making up for it now by throwing a list of awesome books in your face giving you politely and gently a bookish Top Ten Tuesday post.

So I am absolutely horrible at giving a title to ANYTHING. I wanted to title my baby brother Water Lily. I am calling my NaNoWriMo 2k17 project NaNoWriMo 2k17. I’M TERRIBLE. But some people, thank the gods of everything bookish and good, are not. And so today I’ll be sharing with you all some of my personal favorite book titles that I wish I had had enough brains to come up with on my own. *Except books. But I expect you already knew that, didn’t you?

1. The Language of Thorns: Midnight Tales and Dangerous Magic

First of all, this is the type of cover to make my eyeballs sing for joy. I mean look at it! When I first got my copy I just held it and stroked it and loved it and drooled over it until my family made me look at things in the real world again. And the ILLUSTRATIONS INSIDE. OH MY GOODNESS. THEY ARE BEAUTY. (I’m such a sucker for pretty illustrations in books. I really don’t understand why YA and NA don’t still have pretty pictures. WE CAN APPRECIATE FINE ART TOO.) Secondly, that title! It’s so pretty, and it draws you in, doesn’t it? I literally had no idea what this book was about when I first added it to my tbr, but I heard the title, and that is was written by Leigh Bardugo, AND THEN I SAW THE COVER and I was sold.

2. Before She Ignites

Now I dnf this book at 10%. I was super super super excited for it, and I was expecting something empowering and inspirational. However. That did not happen. BUT I’M NOT HERE TO REVIEW TODAY. You have to admit that, however disappointing the story may or may not be to you, the title is good. I saw it and was immediately ready to jump in. Also, that cover is GORGEOUS.

3. Eliza and Her Monsters

THIS TITLE IS BEAUTIFUL BECAUSE IT’S A DOUBLE ENTENDRE. Because Eliza both creates monsters in her story, Monstrous Sea, and she has metaphorical monsters represented by her anxiety and depression and GAH I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. Also, this book was just really good. The anxiety/depression rep was REALLY well done, and the cover is good, AND THE TITLE, GUYS.

4. The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making

Some might argue that this title is a bit long, and I would agree. I literally have not once been able to say it out loud. However, you have to admit that you do notice it. I mean, this isn’t a book that your eyes would scan over without taking at least something in. It just sound… cool. I should read this again.

5. A Study in Charlotte

This is another one that’s so clever I just want to run out into the street and explain it to all the random strangers that I see. And I don’t like talking to random strangers face-to-face, so that’s saying something. It’s a play on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s first Sherlock Holmes novel, A Study in Scarlet, WHICH IS SO CLEVER because this book is about the descendants of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson* named Charlotte and Jamie as they meet and run about and solve crimes and are cute together.

*I realized that I made this sound like they are the descendants of both Holmes and Watson together, which would imply that Holmes and Watson were married, which unfortunately they were not. No, Jamie and Charlotte aren’t related, which makes this plot a lot less creepy than it would be otherwise, considering what they get up to.

6. Turtles All the Way Down

This cover made me a little bit sad because, personally, I don’t think it’s all that pretty. But the title is good! It really grabbed my attention. I still haven’t gotten around to reading this yet (ye shall judge me, mortals, for I am a book devouring monster and I am currently devouring multiple) but it’s John Green, so I’m sure it’ll be fabulous. I hope there are real turtles, but sadly, I doubt that there will be.

7. They Both Die at the End

So this title is definitely one that jumps out at you. The first time I saw it I remembered thinking WHO THE HECK WOULD SPOIL THEIR OWN BOOK LIKE THAT??? I’m reading it right now and I must know: do they, in fact, both die at the end? DON’T TELL ME. I DON’T REALLY WANT TO KNOW. YOU SPOIL IT FOR ME, YOU DIE. Love you, tho.

8. Night of Cake and Puppets

I still haven’t read this one either (or any of Laini Taylor’s stuff. Am I going to have my bookworm card revoked for that??? Please say no) BUT I AM PLANNING ON IT, DON’T YOU WORRY. I couldn’t pass this one up for the list, despite not having read it. Night of Cake and Puppets… that sounds wonderful. I want to go. Unless they are creepy puppets─nope, there’ll be cake, I still want to go.

9. The Invention of Hugo Cabret

This title is beautiful. Because not only does it imply an actual, physical invention, but it implies that Hugo himself is being invented as well. I love this book. It’s yet another with illustrations─in fact, half of the story is actually made up of illustrations─and the story is simply beautiful. In fact, all of Brian Selznick’s stuff is stunning, but The Marvels is my favorite.

10. A Thousand Perfect Notes

THIS BOOK ISN’T EVEN OUT YET AND I’M SO FREAKING EXCITED. IT’S BY CAIT, GUYS. And if you don’t know who that is, then why are you a human??? Go check her out. But besides being by one of my FAVORITE BLOGGERS OF ALL THE BLOGGERS this book just has a really good title. I immediately have questions. Are they notes of paper? Music notes? Are there really a thousand? Will there be dragons? Will there be CAKE??? I’M SO EXCITED.
